The Salaam Baalak Trust, based in Delhi, is an NGO established in December 1988 to support street and working children across the National Capital Region. Its establishment was inspired by Salaam Bombay, a film directed by Mira Nair that brought wider attention to the challenges faced by children living and working on the streets, as well as the socio-economic circumstances that contribute to their vulnerability.

For over three decades, the Salaam Baalak Trust has worked to ensure that children below the age of 18 have access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to build more secure futures. The name “Salaam Baalak,” meaning “salutes a child,” reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting children irrespective of their gender, religion, race, or circumstances.

Through its collaboration with Salaam Baalak Trust, KYC Collective aims to complement the organisation’s existing work by introducing accessible elements of civic and rights education into its programmes, helping children and communities better understand their rights and the systems and support available to them.
